The rumors were true.

What you need to know

  • Crysis is a popular first-person shooter from Crytek.
  • The game required incredibly powerful computers to run back in the day.
  • It's getting remastered for Xbox One and other platforms.
  • It may launch towards the end of August.

A few weeks ago, the dormant Crysis account started teasing a new game with cryptic messages. While it was unclear if this was the long-rumored Crysis 4 or a remaster, everyone discovered the answer the next day. According to a post by EA — spotted by "lashman" — "Crysis Remastered brings new graphic features, high-quality textures, and... ray tracing solution for PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and — for the very first time — Nintendo Switch."

It's a shame that this isn't Crysis 4, but Crysis is an amazing game and we can't wait to play it on Xbox One soon. According to the Microsoft Store, the game runs at 4K resolution on Xbox One X and the file size is only 7 GB. It's unclear if the game will get a day-one patch that increases this.

What begins as a simple rescue mission becomes the battleground of a new war as alien invaders swarm over a North Korean island chain. Armed with a powerful nanosuit, become invisible to stalk enemy patrols, or boost your strength to lay waste to vehicles. One wrong move out here could be your last. The nanosuit's speed, strength, armor, and cloaking allow creative solutions for every kind of fight, while a huge arsenal of modular weaponry provides unprecedented control over play style. In the ever-changing environment, adapt tactics and gear to dominate your enemies, in an enormous sandbox world.

Another press release that's floating online said the following.

The classic first-person shooter is back with the action-packed gameplay, sandbox world, and thrilling epic battles players loved the first time around – with remastered graphics and optimizations for a new generation of hardware co-developed on Cryengine with Saber Interactive. Starting this summer, Crysis Remastered will be available for PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch. Crysis Remastered will focus on the original game's single-player campaigns and is slated to contain high-quality textures and improved art assets, an HD texture pack, temporal anti-aliasing, SSDO, SVOGI, state-of-the-art depth fields, new light settings, motion blur, and parallax occlusion mapping, particle effects will also be added where applicable. Further additions such as volumetric fog and shafts of light, software-based ray tracing, and screen space reflections provide the game with a major visual upgrade.

According to the Microsoft Store, the title was supposed to launch on July 23, but the Crysis team says that it's delaying the game by a few weeks to polish it up. We'll keep you posted as soon as we know more.

Are you excited for Crysis Remastered? What do you want to see from the project in terms of improvements over the original? Let us know.
