Logitech's G203 is a fantastic budget gaming mouse

Logitech's latest budget mouse has a lot to offer for not a lot of money.

Getting a good quality gaming mouse on a budget has never been easier with several truly excellent options out there now. PC gaming doesn't have to be expensive, and the G203 from Logitech is another superb example of this.

It's a new, extremely affordable mouse aimed at gamers, but it's just as good for day to day work in the office, too.

Oh, and the RGB is pretty killer.

What you'll like about the Logitech G203

The first thing to love about the G203 is the price. It's under $40/£40, which immediately makes it enticing for the gamer on a budget. It's well made, too, as you'd expect from a Logitech product, with a robust feeling body, nice clicky buttons, and a decent weight to it. It's not heavy, but it feels perfectly balanced in hand.

And that's in either hand, too. It's not a fully ambidextrous mouse (more on that below), but with a symmetrical design, it can be used whether you're right or left-handed in comfort.

The design is quite understated, with a classic shape broken up by some tasteful RGB in the form of a strip around the lower edge and in the Logitech G logo. This is fully integrated into the Lightsync family and customizable in Logitech's G Hub app alongside any other peripherals you have from the company.

G Hub is also where you'll program the buttons on the G203. All six are programmable, and unless you're into MOBAs where you might want a ton of additional buttons, it's surprising how much flexibility even this amount of buttons gives you.

In Destiny 2, for example, I have the thumb buttons mapped to melee and sprint, with the DPI button mapped to throw a grenade. All the functions I want on my mouse, even on something this affordable.

Performance is excellent, too. Logitech hasn't provided too many specifics on the sensor, but you're getting a 1000Hz polling rate and a DPI up to 8,000, which for virtually any PC gamer will be more than ample. For context, I run my mouse usually at 1,600 DPI for day to day use, and the G203 has been great at this mark.

And it is pretty good to use for regular PC activities, too. It's quite small, but still comfortable to hold, and is as easy to use all day gaming as it is working.

What you'll dislike about the Logitech G203

It's hard to really pick fault with a mouse-like this that also costs less than $40, but there are a couple of points worth highlighting if you're thinking of buying one.

The first is that while the cable is very long at 2.1m, it's not particularly good quality. In budget gaming mice, the cable is one of the first things to be built down to a budget, and on the G203, it's precisely this. It's thin, gets tangled really quickly, and you probably wouldn't want to get it snagged on anything potentially sharp.

It's also worth highlighting that while the symmetrical shape lends itself to be used with either the right or left hand, only right-handed folks will be able to easily use all of the programmable buttons. The two on the left side of the mouse are in the perfect position to be pressed by the right thumb, but they're less accessible from the left hand without some finger gymnastics.

Should you buy the Logitech G203?

If you're in the market for a good quality gaming mouse on a budget, then the G203 should definitely be on your shortlist. It ticks all the major boxes, with a great price, good build quality, and excellent performance.

With the added bonus that you're not locked out of using it if you're left-handed.

It's a shame the cable is a bit rubbish, but it's hard to pick any genuine faults with the G203. For under $40, you're getting an excellent gaming mouse that you can also quite easily use all day in the office, too.
