Familiarize yourself with the new systems and wreak havoc on your enemies.

Elden Ring, like many FromSoftware games before it, includes a fairly comprehensive magic system. Some of the classes in Elden Ring start off able to use magic and any character can eventually take part in flinging spells, with the right investments. In general, Elden Ring appears to offer more choice than any of FromSoftware's previous titles, meaning it could be one of the best Xbox RPGs available. Here's what you need to know about magic in Elden Ring, including a complete list of Sorceries and Incantations so far.

Elden Ring magic types

Magic in Elden Ring appears to be divided into two parts: Sorceries and Incantations. Sorceries require the Intelligence stat to use, while Incantations require the Faith stat. Both spells and miracles use FP, which is increased by raising your character's Intelligence stat when leveling up. FP can be restored by drinking from your character's Flasks of Cerulean Tears.

Sorceries require a Staff to cast, while Incantations require a Sacred Seal. Functionally, Sorceries and Incantations seem to be very similar to Sorceries and Miracles from Demon's Souls and the Dark Souls trilogy of games.

Elden Ring magic list of Sorceries

  • Glintstone Pebble — Fires a magic blast towards an enemy.

A glintstone sorcery discovered at the Raya Lucaria Academy. The glintstone serves as a conduit, launching magical projectiles at foes. This sorcery can be cast repeatedly and while in motion. This is a universal first step on the journey to true knowledge of sorcery.

  • Requires: 10 Intelligence

The Enchanted Knight class starts with this magic. Can be bought from Sorceress Sellen for 300 Runes.

  • Glintstone Stars — Fires three magic blasts towards an enemy.

  • Glintstone Arc — Fires a wave of magic energy horizontally.

A glintstone sorcery discovered at the Raya Lucaria Academy. A horizontal arc of magic spreads outward. This sorcery can be cast repeatedly and while in motion. This sorcery is granted to sorcerers who set off from the Academy to travel, to protect them against large groups of would-be adversaries. Fools often roam in packs.

  • Meteorite — Rains down magic meteors.

A glintstone sorcery that draws on gravitational force, used by a great white king with stone skin. Calls small meteorites down from the sky. The meteor shower continues for as long as the sorcery is in effect. It is said that, in the Eternal City, now lost in ruin underground, meteorites held the same import as stars.

  • Requires: 16 Intelligence

Can be bought from Sorceress Sellen for 600 Runes.

  • Briars of Sin — Stabs in circle with vines of blood

An aberrant sorcery, discovered along with red glintstone by those exiled to the north for their crimes. Summons large thorns from a whorl of blood shed by one's own hand in penance for sins. This sorcery can be cast repeatedly. The Academy reviles this sorcery, which draws its power from faith.

  • Requires: 11 Intelligence
