Witness the story of 2042 through these new trailers
What you need to know
- Battlefield 2042 is the next entry in the chaotic multiplayer first-person shooter franchise, and it looks more intense than ever.
- The game is multiplayer-only, meaning it will not feature a traditional single-player campaign or story mode.
- In the absence of a campaign, Battlefield 2042 is building its war-torn world with new short film story trailers.
- The first of its kind, "Exodus," features Battlefield 4 character "Irish" returning, who is forced to face a challenging decision.
One of the most anticipated games of the year is Battlefield 2042, the chaotic and action-packed follow-up to the long-running multiplayer shooter Battlefield franchise. When Battlefield 2042 arrives later this year, it stands a good chance at becoming one of the best Xbox games, but it'll do so bereft of any kind of traditional single-player campaign, despite taking place in a storied and detail-filled near-future world.
Similar to some other multiplayer-only games like Apex Legends and Overwatch, Battlefield 2042 is letting its players get a glimpse into the war-torn world through new short film story trailers. You can watch the first trailer, Exodus, below.
The latest story trailer explores a slice of Exodus' life, which is actually Kimble "Irish" Graves from Battlefield 4, but with a new moniker and a new challenge to overcome. Exodus is faced with an impossible decision: between the lives of 200 innocent people, or the future of all the Non-Patriated that suffer from the consequences of 2042's violence-riddled world. The story trailer looks great, and may scratch the itch for some players hoping for a single-player campaign.
Battlefield 2042 arrives for Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One, PC, and PlayStation on Oct. 22, 2021, and it already looks incredible.
