CD Projekt can't seem to catch a break.
What you need to know
- CD Projekt's servers have been breached in a large cyber attack.
- CD Projekt says they believe customer data is safe at this time.
- Hackers are threatening to leak sensitive data if CD Projekt doesn't answer a ransom demand.
The developers of The Witcher series and Cyberpunk 2077 posted a notice on Twitter today, publically acknowledging a massive cyberattack that has seen the entirety of its internal servers scraped and held for ransom.
CD Projekt says that there's no reason to believe any customer data has been breached "to the best of their knowledge," although investigations are ongoing. CD Projekt also seemed to indicate that its "partners" may be impacted by the breach. The hacker's ransom note also contained threats to release sensitive documentation to the press, which supposedly contains information on sensitive areas like HR, finance, legal, and more.

CD Projekt has already confirmed that they intend to refuse to negotiate with the hackers and that they are working with the authorities to try and resolve the situation.
CD Projekt and its developer arm CD Projekt RED have fallen under some intense scrutiny in recent years over reports of harsh working conditions at the studio, alongside misleading the public over the quality of the base Xbox One and PS4 versions of Cyberpunk 2077. There are even class-action lawsuits taking place, and the Polish government was involved in investigating the development of the game. To say things are a bit of a mess at CD Projekt right now could be an understatement.
