The Medium is easily one of our most anticipated Xbox games of 2021 and for very good reason. Being touted by fans as the spiritual successor to Silent Hill, this modern title takes inspiration from the horror classics that came before it while introducing a bold dual-reality gameplay mechanic.
Many players have been eager to see more of the game in action and thanks to the awesome folks at Bloober Team we proudly get to showcase a small slice of it. Here are 14 minutes of new 4K gameplay from The Medium.
In this video, we get a fresh look at many key elements of what makes The Medium so exciting for long-time horror fans. In addition to some cryptic introductions to a few of the supernatural characters our protagonist Marianne will encounter during the 8-10 hour playthrough, we also see the game's answer to non-traditional combat. In lieu of firearms or melee weapons, players have an assortment of spirit powers at their disposal which they'll need to cleverly use to overcome seemingly impossible obstacles.
While some players criticized Xbox's lack of true next-gen releases with the launch of the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, The Medium is looking to be our first exclusively next-gen title on the platform. In our interview with the developers, Bloober Team explained how the dual-reality mechanic simply wasn't possible before the release of this new hardware. Because of this, The Medium will only be coming to Xbox Series X|S and PC when it launches on Jan. 28, 2021.
Truly next-gen psychological horror
The Medium
Double your fear
The Medium introduces an innovative dual-world gameplay mechanic that plunges players into two shockingly different environments simultaneously. This is one to watch for fans of Silent Hill.
