The AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT GPU is a killer GPU for the price, unlocking 1440p and some 4K gaming. It may not be the absolute best graphics card from AMD, but it's up there with the best of the bunch. If you want to build a very capable gaming rig, this is an ideal place to start.

Premium X570 AMD

Staff pick

ASUS ROG Strix X570-E

ASUS ROG Strix X570-E

The best AMD motherboard for the RX 6800 XT has to be the excellent ASUS ROG Strix X570-E. This board not only rocks support for PCIe 4.0, Wi-Fi 6, but plenty of other handy features. This board also has Gen 4 M.2 slots for transfer speeds of up to 64GB/s, which is quite fast. There's also some solid power delivery, and RGB lighting for more enthusiast builds.

Best Intel

ASUS ROG Strix Z490-E Gaming

For those who prefer Intel, the ASUS ROG Strix Z390-E is the way to go. It has everything you need for a 10th Gen PC build with AMD graphics. There are high-quality components, support for advanced overclocking, and a rock-solid BIOS. There's even built-in Wi-Fi, just in case you can't wire up your PC.

Best Value

ASRock B550M Steel Legend

ASRock's B550M Steel Legend is a better value AMD motherboard, striking a balance between X570 and A520 chipsets. It still has PCIe 4.0 and some other notable features, but doesn't have all the bells and whistles featured on a more expensive motherboard. You'll still be able to install a Ryzen 3000 or 5000 processor without issue.

Entry X570

ASUS Prime X570-P

ASUS Prime X570-P

You won't really be able to locate any budget-friendly X570 motherboards since that'll land you in the B550 catalog, but you can find some pretty good entry-level X570 boards like the ASUS Prime X570-P. It's got a lot going for it with metal heatsinks for the VRMs and other high-quality components.

Budget Pick

Gigabyte A520 AORUS Elite

You should only consider this motherboard if you're fine with not having PCIe 4.0 support and are on a strict budget. It's less advance than our B550 recommendation, which makes it great for a starter PC but not the best option for gaming. PCIe 4.0 for your storage or GPU won't see you pushing the system to its limits, but you likely won't notice the difference.

Enthusiast Build

ASUS ROG X570 Crosshair VIII Formula

ASUS ROG X570 Crosshair VIII Formula

This is the motherboard you should buy if you want to go all-out with your PC. Partner up this monster of a foundation with an AMD Ryzen 9 5950X and a Radeon RX 6800 XT and you'll have an impressive rig. There are so many high-end features, including a heatsink block that can be connected to your custom water-cooling loop. It's that ridiculous.

Choosing the best motherboard

You may have noticed most of our recommended motherboards are for AMD processors and that's because we'd recommend the Ryzen 5000 series of processors at launch for AMD's GPUs. The company has gone into some detail about how its GPUs work better with its own CPUs, thanks to better (and faster) memory access.

If you're looking for the best motherboard for an AMD build with the Radeon RX 6800 XT, you're going to want to give the ASUS ROG Strix X570-E a looking as it's an excellent choice for most consumers, even providing room for stable overclocking.

For Intel fans, your choice is the ASUS ROG Strix Z490-E Gaming, which comes rocking pretty much everything you need to build a capable Intel gaming rig. Just try not to worry too much about the lack of any PCIe 4.0. It's an excellent motherboard with support for 10th Gen processors.
