The new mode will be free with microtransactions.
If you want to play through Cyberpunk 2077, the new massive open-world game from CD Projekt Red, with a friend, you might be waiting for a while.
Multiplayer in Cyberpunk 2077 won't be available at launch on December 10. In fact, it's not expected to release at all in 2021. The multiplayer function is part of a separate project being developed by Canadian studio Digital Scapes, whose team members have previously worked on Dying Light and Company of Heroes.
CD Projekt Red has said that the multiplayer component will be its own AAA release rather than something like a DLC update, though there are plenty of paid and free updates expected to release throughout 2021. Multiplayer in Cyberpunk 2077 will be made available for free to anyone who has already purchased a copy of the game, though the multiplayer mode will have microtransactions. CD Projekt has promised that those won't contaminate the main game and that it will treat players' "money with respect."
Beyond that, the developers haven't shared any information about how multiplayer in Cyberpunk 2077. We'd love to see it allow players to team up in missions and have some sweet cybernetically augmented duels or even an MMO taking place in the remarkable confines of Night City. Luckily the main single player experience offers 30-50 hours of story so you'll have plenty to explore on your own before you join up with friends.
