Monday 30 November 2020

Cyber Monday is the last big chance of the year to give your PC a significant storage upgrade by snagging a discounted SSD. Prices have come down a lot in recent years, but taking advantage of deal season can help you even more.

All modern PCs can benefit from good SSD storage, and older machines might find a new lease of life by upgrading from an old, slow HDD. Laptop or desktop, upgrade or new build, these are the deals you need this Cyber Monday.

Our top pick for an M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD is currently seeing a big sale thanks to some advance Black Friday savings. Get 1TB of storage for just $150 at a bunch of major retailers.

Before you click buy though make sure you know exactly what type of SSD you need for your machine. While NVMe drives are super-fast in PCs that support PCIe storage, they're more expensive than SATA drives. If your PC doesn't support the rated performance, though, you'll be spending more than you need to.

Also remember that currently PCIe 4.0 is exclusive to AMD's latest X570 and B550 desktop chipsets so unless you have the right hardware you'll be better off getting a regular PCIe 3.0 drive. And for mass storage, you'll be best looking for 2.5-inch drives.

With that all said, this is the best of the bunch this Cyber Monday.

Samsung 860 EVO 1TB | $100 at Amazon

If you want good performance and value for your mass storage drives then you should certainly be looking towards this deal on a Samsung 1TB SSD. It's fast, reliable, has a great warranty and a superb companion app to help you get the best from it.

The 980 Pro from Samsung is simply ridiculous. It offers data transfer speeds of up to 6,900 MB/s, so long as you have a PCIe 4.0 compatible motherboard and processor. If you want to go fast, look no further than this discounted NVMe SSD.

From $75 at Amazon

Western Digital Blue 500GB SATA III | $53 at Best Buy

Any chance to get one of these with some savings is a chance worth taking.

Seagate FireCuda PCIe 4.0 1TB | $180 at Amazon

They're a little pricier than PCIe 3.0 drives but the performance is leaps and bounds better than anything you've ever seen. So when there's a deal to be had, don't miss out.

$180 at Amazon

SK Hynix Gold S31 | $46 at Amazon

These superb SK Hynix 2.5-inch SSDs are already excellent value but if you snag one through Amazon right now you can apply a coupon at checkout that takes another 10% whatever the asking price at the time is. That's not too shabby at all, and is valid on both the 500GB and 1TB versions.

$46 at Amazon

Sabrent Rocket PCIe 4.0 SSD

A perfect drive to base your new Ryzen PC around, with the PCIe 4.0 standard offering performance never seen before in consumer-grade PCs.
