Europa is home to many secrets, including a special chest that involves solving a puzzle. Here's how to get it.

Europa, the brand new location in Destiny 2's latest expansion, Beyond Light, is full of interesting secrets to discover. One of these secrets is a special loot chest that can only be accessed by killing a specific enemy and then completing a puzzle. Here's a guide on how you can get to the secret chest yourself and obtain your loot.

In Beyond Light, players will encounter a dark Fallen faction, travel to new locations, and go beyond the Light to wield the power of the Darkness.

Step 1: Kill the Technorunner to get special codes

The first step on your quest to obtain the hidden chest will be to kill the Technorunner, a special Fallen Captain enemy that will occasionally spawn in the Eventide Ruins. Specifically, if the weather on Europa is stormy, you may see a text pop-up that says, "A powerful enemy waits out the storm...," which indicates that the Technorunner has spawned. You will always find him taking shelter underneath the snow-filled building in the southeast part of the area with yellow paint on the walls (see below).

There's nothing particularly special about the Technorunner, aside from the fact he has higher-than-average health. He isn't an aggressive enemy and will only attack you first if you wander within sight of him while he's crouched and waiting out the storm. Therefore, you can easily ambush him and kill him before he has a chance to fight back.

Once the Technorunner is dead, you'll get a new buff: the Riis-Reborn Key Codes. There are necessary to have for the next step.

Step 2: Use the codes in Riis-Reborn Approach

Once you have the Riis-Reborn Key Codes, you'll need to head to the Riis-Reborn Approach and go to the chamber located just before the teleporter room that led you to Eramis in the Beyond Light campaign. Watch the video above for the route starting from the entrance to Riis-Reborn Approach.

In said chamber, you'll find a giant Fallen enemy named Keviks, Vex Researcher, as well as a small group of normal Fallen enemies. Dispatch all of them (I recommend a shotgun for Keviks since the room is small) and then turn to face the tan-colored terminal on the wall. Walk up to it, and you'll be given a prompt to...drink inert radiolarian fluid. Delicious. Do so, and you'll then receive the "Cadmus Ridge Signal," which you'll need to access the hidden puzzle in the area.

Step 3: Complete the puzzle in Cadmus Ridge

The final thing standing between you and your reward is a special puzzle in the Cadmus Ridge area. To get started, head to the right of the location where Perdition Lost Sector in Cadmus Ridge is (don't miss our guide on where to find Europa's Lost Sectors) and look for a small crevice where a Vex pillar meets the ice. There, you'll find a Vex energy interface (see above). Activate it to be sent to the puzzle.

The puzzle area hangs over the rest of Cadmus Ridge. It consists of four cross-shaped platforms that surround a large middle platform covered in Vex security lasers. On each of the four cross platforms, there will be a circular plate surrounded by three triangles. To solve the puzzle, you'll need to emote (yes, emote) on the plate of the cross-platform that you spawned on. This will illuminate one of the three triangles, indicating the direction of the next cross-platform to which you need to travel. Repeat this process at the next platform. Once you successfully emote on all the plates in the correct order, the chest will spawn in front of you and will reward you with a piece of Europa gear (find out how else you can get Europa gear here). Watch the video above to see an example of how to successfully complete the puzzle (I didn't receive loot in the clip because I already did it beforehand; you can only get the chest's loot once per week).

If you're having trouble completing the puzzle, it's a good idea to shoot the cubes that all the security lasers are coming from so that jumping from platform to platform is less dangerous. You are also given a generous two-minute timer between each successful plate activation, so take things as slowly as you need to. And even if you do run out of time or fall off, there's no need to worry since you keep the Cadmus Ridge Signal and can walk up to the energy interface to try again. Finally, I recommend doing the puzzle when there's not a Public Event in the area, as the enemies shooting you from below makes completing the puzzle more difficult.

Your thoughts

What do you think of this neat little secret on Europa? Are you excited to see if more hidden chests like this exist? Let us know in the comments. Also, don't miss our guides on all of Beyond Light's Exotic weapons and how to get them as well as how to get Stasis Aspects and Fragments.

Destiny 2: Beyond Light is available on Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One consoles, PlayStation 4 and 5, and Windows 10 PCs. It costs $40 but is also available through Xbox Game Pass. If you've never tried out Destiny 2, I recommend doing so, as it's easily one of the best Xbox One shooters.
