If you're shopping for a gaming laptop on Prime Day, this is the one to get.

If you've been saving up for big-ticket items like gaming laptops, Prime Day can certainly be a great time to finally hit the buy button. You're never guaranteed that holding out will pay off, but quite often, it does, and if you're in the market for a new gaming laptop, it's definitely time to go shopping.

The base model of the Razer Blade 15 — which has been our pick for best gaming laptop for quite some time now — has a hefty $300 discount for Prime Day. And that makes it the one to get.

If you get a gaming laptop on Prime Day, then you need to make it this one. With a $300 discount on the regular asking price, our favorite gaming laptop's base model is a crazy value.

Don't be put off by 'base model'

Even with a hefty discount, the $1,300 asking price is still far from an insignificant sum, and the term "Base Model" might be offputting. But it need not. As it happens, Razer makes it a little easier to choose a Blade 15 with the kind of performance you want.

The Base Model Blade 15 is the entry-level spec, but it's still a great performer with more power than a good amount of gaming laptops. It's the 1080p model, the one where you're looking to have fun in your favorite games without worrying about high-resolution displays either on the laptop or externally.

Razer also has the Advanced and Studio editions of the Blade 15, with each tier stepping up the power and the price tag.

So, the Base Model it may be, but it still looks exactly as good as the more expensive versions, and it's still got plenty of power.

Serious gaming performance

What you get inside this version of the Razer Blade 15 is why it's an outstanding value at $1,300. Let's start at the top.

The CPU is an Intel Core i7-10750H. That's a 6-core, 12-thread CPU from Intel's latest generation 45W H-Series. With a base clock of 2.6GHz and a maximum boost of 5.0 GHz, you're not going to be left short on CPU performance. The Blade 15 is also one of the better gaming laptops at keeping things cool without sounding like an airliner taking off.

A complete package for a 1080p gaming laptop.

That CPU is paired with 16GB of RAM, a 256GB NVMe SSD, and an NVIDIA GTX 1660 Ti GPU. On a laptop, especially for 1080p gaming, that's a good mix. I'm not a fan of the RTX 2060 MaxQ in notebooks; it's not good enough for ray tracing, generally too hot without tweaking, and doesn't deliver enough performance without ray tracing to be worth a price premium. The GTX 1660 Ti is more where it's at for a 1080p gaming laptop.

The icing on the cake, especially for the Prime Day price point, is the display. With a 144Hz refresh rate, you'll be able to play all your favorite games at high frame rates, and they'll look crisp and glorious. It's even pretty good for color-work with 100% sRGB coverage.

Add in Wi-Fi 6 and Thunderbolt 3, and you have a powerful package. The latter means you can use something like the Razer Core X eGPU when you're at home if you want something a bit more potent for your gaming. But as a package, it's an excellent buy.

Discount not to be ignored

Discounts like this don't come along every day and if you're looking for a good gaming laptop on a tighter budget this Prime Day, look no further than this. An opportunity to get a Razer Blade 15 for $1,300 is an opportunity worth taking.
