Reinventing a rather boring biome.
Months ago, back during Minecon 2019, Mojang Studios was laying out a busy year ahead for the global gaming phenomenon known as Minecraft. The Buzzy Bees Update added a cute, fuzzy new mob and mechanics, followed by the absolutely massive Nether Update. Now we're on to the next stage of Minecraft, and there's a very good chance it's going to be the Mountain Update.
We don't know if that's the name or not, but we do know that back at Minecon 2019 Mojang Studios held a vote for the next biome set to receive a nice meaty update, and the mountain biome won out. The question is, when will the Mountain Update come out? Here's what we know so far.
When is the release date for 'Mountain Update' on Minecraft?
Mojang Studios hasn't confirmed the name of the Mountain Update, or even that it's going to be the next update for Minecraft (although we can be relatively confident that it is). Right now, all hands are on deck to make the Nether Update as awesome as it can be, so we don't have any details yet. That being said, it's pretty easy to speculate based on previous releases and how Mojang Studios will likely handle this.
We're expecting the Mountain Update to be much smaller in size than the Nether Update, and closer overall to the Buzzy Bees Update before that. This means it shouldn't take nearly as much development time to get it ready and out to the public. I expect Mojang Studios to take another month or two to polish the Nether Update, and then it'll likely be another month or so before we hear anything about the Mountain Update. Once it's out in the open and preview builds have begun releasing, it stands to reason that it'll only be another month or two from that moment before the Mountain Update is here.
What does this mean? Based off previous releases, it makes sense that Mojang Studios will try to get the next update out before the end of the year, before they begin talking about what the next truly major update will be. A November / December 2020 release seems most likely.
Of course, all of this is pure speculation, so we'll be sure to keep our eyes peeled for definitive information, and update this post any time we learn more. The closer we get to the actual release of the Mountain Update, the more we'll be able to narrow it down. For now, a release in the later months of 2020 is the most likely.
When do you think the Mountain Update will release? Do you think the Mountain Update is the next release, or will Mojang Studios do something else? Let us know in the comments below!
