Listen closely and you can learn.
What you need to know
- Mojang Studios often releases Dev Diaries videos that talks about different parts of creating Minecraft.
- The latest Dev Diaries goes over sound in 'the Nether Update' for Minecraft, including ambient sounds and music.
- It's a fascinating look into how the sound for the update was designed, especially some of the ambient noises.
- You can watch the YouTube video right here, and learn more about sound design in Minecraft.
Minecraft is an incredibly complicated game, with numerous parts and pieces that all need to fit together perfectly to create the end result. One of the biggest parts of Minecraft is the sound design, which adds a lot to the environments and atmospheres that players can explore. A lot of work goes into sound in Minecraft, which has led to the game having one of the most beautiful soundtracks and most memorable ambient sounds.
In the latest Dev Diaries video on YouTube, different developers from Mojang discuss how sound in the Nether Update was designed, which gives us a great insight into the final product. One of the most fascinating tidbits was how many of the sounds in the game were made from balloons, toys, and even the developer making the sounds himself!
If you're interested in this topic, you can watch the six minute long video above, which goes over ambient sound, music, mob noises, and then ends with sound design as a whole. It's been one of my favorite Dev Diaries so far, just because of all the inside knowledge you can gain from watching the video.
