The Surface Book is a serious investment, but it's a true productivity machine, and you're definitely not going to leave it at home. So, you need a good bag to keep it safe while you're out and about. Whether you want style, practicality, or something based on a tight budget, there are some great bags out there for the Surface Book 2 and Surface Book 3.

Amazing bag

WaterField Tech Rolltop

Editor's choice

The WaterField Tech Rolltop backpack is pricey, but it's also one of our very favorite laptop bags, in no small part due to its high-quality design and construction. It has two water bottle holders on the outside, and the rolltop design means it can also expand to accommodate other items or shrink right down to carry a 13- or 15-inch Surface Book. Choose from ballistic nylon or waxed canvas to suit your style and know your laptop will always be safe when you're out and about.

Weather resistant

Peak Design Everyday Messenger V1

If you want a ton of space, the Peak Design Everyday Messenger is a king among bags. It's technically aimed at photographers, but thanks to removable separators, you can fit a ton of your gear inside. The V1 model is still a great buy and comes in both 13-inch and 15-inch forms, and the exterior is covered in a pretty durable water-resistant coating, so if you get caught in a downpour, your Surface Book will stay clean and dry.

Budget pick

AmazonBasics Backpack

The AmazonBasics Backpack for laptops is as barebones as you can get without sacrificing protection and capacity. The bag itself may be basic, but it's well-loved and can handle up to 17-inch laptops. From the outside, you get numerous zipped compartments, making it ideal for packing other things aside from the laptop, like accessories or even a change of clothes.

Great for Travel

Timbuk2 Command Messenger Bag

The Command Messenger bag has a waterproof interior and various pockets to house everything you need for a day in the office while being designed to stand up to frequent commuting or more extended traveling. There's space inside for either size Surface Book, and when you need to go on longer trips, the bag is TSA-friendly, which means the pouch folds out, so you don't have to pull out your laptop and other electricals when you hit the airport.

Gamer Style

Razer Rogue V2

This backpack is full of gaming style and has everything you need to keep your Surface Book safe. Not only is the bag tear-proof, but it's also water-resistant and seriously commodious. The Rogue V2 can hold both sized Surface Books and comes packing Razer's traditional black and green color scheme. The inside is TPU padded and scratch-resistant, so this is a bag that will take all the punishment while keeping your laptop safe and sound.

Top Security

Korin Design ClickPack Pro

If security is vital for you, especially if you take part in frequent air travel, then this is a great choice to keep your Surface Book safe. The key is an integrated zip lock that keeps unwanted hands out of your bag while also being TSA friendly for routine inspections. The fabric is slash-resistant for added peace of mind, and there's even USB charging for your smartphone and a rain cover for those unfortunate times you're caught in a shower.

If we had to choose...

The Surface Book is a pretty expensive laptop, and as such, you're going to want to take the best care possible of it when you're out and about. As it stands, our ultimate choice is the simply exquisite Waterfield Tech Rolltop. It's pricey, yes, but as far as a bag for all occasions, it fits the bill perfectly. It'll keep your Surface Book safe, it looks great, and it's got space for a quite ridiculous amount of stuff inside.

Similar things can also be said of Peak Design's Everyday Messenger from a company that has gained a massive fanbase in recent years. Not only is it a good laptop bag, but it's clever, with an innovative interior to help you truly maximize your everyday carry. And the water-resistant coating on the outside is mind-blowingly good.

And then there's the super-budget AmazonBasics backpack. It isn't fancy, and it looks a bit boring perhaps, but the price is extremely attractive, it's big enough for either Surface Book and several accessories, and it's pretty durable. Ultimately, it's hard to go wrong with any of these great bags.
