When the ESA is away, the publishers will play.

Update: June 5, 2020 Updated with a dedicated section for past events, as well as the latest news.

E3 2020 was cancelled but that isn't stopping various parts of the gaming industry from rallying together and figuring out new events. Of particular note is Geoff Keighley's Summer Game Fest, which is acting as a wider umbrella for several different announcements. There's already been a couple of game events so far this year, but we're looking ahead to the future. Naturally, we'll also be updating this list as more events and showcases are announced.

IGN Summer of Gaming — June 8 to June 24

IGN is holding its own event called Summer of Gaming, which has plentiful reveals, gameplay and developer interviews. This event kicks off on June 8.

The Escapist Indie Showcase — June 11

On June 11, The Escapist is presenting over 70 indie games, including new reveals and developer interviews.

PS5: The Future of Gaming — June 11, 4:00 p.m. EST

PlayStation has announced a PS5 games showcase called The Future of Gaming. This event will run for a little over an hour and was originally set for June 4 at 4:00 p.m. EST. It has since been delayed however, in light of the ongoing protests against police brutality and racial injustice. The Future of Gaming will now begin on June 11 at 4:00 p.m. EST.

The Guerrilla Collective — June 13 to June 15

The Guerrilla Collective is a collection of developers and publishers like 11 bit studios, Larian Studios, Paradox Interactive and more who were originally gathering from June 6 to June 8 for a multi-day conference. This event is being hosted by Greg Miller from Kinda Funny. This event has been delayed to June 13 through June 15 in light of the ongoing protests.

Steam Game Festival — June 16 to June 22

The Steam Game Festival is bringing a variety of demos from upcoming games to Steam. We don't have a list right now but Steam users can expect to try out plenty of games that aren't available yet. This event has been pushed back and will now begin on June 16.

EA Play Live — June 18, 7:00 p.m. EST

EA is holding a digital showcase this called EA Play Live, bringing a slate of games with world premieres, updates and more. EA Play Live was originally scheduled for 7:00 p.m. EST on June 11. It's been delayed to June 18 at 7:00 p.m. EST.

Cyberpunk 2077: Night City Wire — June 25

CD Projekt Red is bringing a "special broadcast" that has something to do with Cyberpunk 2077. Originally scheduled for June 11, this event will now take place on June 25.

Developer showcase — June 22, 11:00 a.m. EST

Geoff Keighley has shared that a new developer showcase is coming on June 22 at 11:00 a.m. EST. This showcase will take a look at new games from indie developers and some larger projects.

Tennocon - July 11

Digital Extremes shares what is next for the free-to-play game Warframe.

Ubisoft Forward — July 12

Ubisoft has announced Ubisoft Forward, a major digital showcase with game reveals and other news. Ubisoft Forward will go live at some point on July 12.

Developer showcase — July 20

A second developer showcase is coming on July 20, showing off more titles ranging from indie projects to bigger games.

Xbox Game Studios event — July

We don't have an exact date right now but Xbox has confirmed that it will be holding a first-party focused Xbox Series X event at some point in July. There will be news, gameplay and announcements from 343 Industries, Double Fine, Obsidian Entertainment, Ninja Theory and other studios. Naturally, one of the highlights will be Halo Infinite.

Gamescom Opening Night Live — August 27, 2:00 p.m. EST

The finale for Summer Game Fest, Gamescom Opening Night Live is going forward as a digital event despite the physical cancellation of Gamescom 2020.

World of Warcraft: Shadowlands developer stream — Unknown

Originally, Blizzard was holding a developer stream for the World of Warcraft: Shadowlands expansion on June 9. This event has been postponed due to the ongoing protests and there is currently no new date.

Everything you might have missed so far

Here's all the different events that have passed. It's been hectic, so you may not have seen some of these.

UE5 Summer Game Fest showcase and interview — May 13

We didn't know what this was going to be, but it was a showcase and interview with Geoff Keighley happening on May 13 at 11:00 a.m. EST. Keighley referred to this event on Twitter as "...one of the more important moments this summer." It turned out to be the reveal of Unreal Engine 5.

State of Play: Ghost of Tsushima gameplay — May 14, 4:00 p.m. EST

Sony brought back the State of Play format to show off the upcoming Sucker Punch blockbuster Ghost of Tsushima. This show began on May 14 at 4:00 p.m. EST and featured about 18 minutes of gameplay.

Riot Games provides an update on Valorant — May 21, 11 a.m. EST

On May 21 at 11:00 a.m. EST, Riot Games provided an update on its arena shooter Valorant. The release date was revealed, alongside news of what was coming to the game next.

State of Play: The Last of Us Part II — May 27, 4:00 p.m. EST

On May 27 at 4:00 p.m. EST, Naughty Dog and PlayStation showed off around 20 minutes of footage from The Last of Us Part II. This included brand-new gameplay and the reveal that Ellie can swim.

Plenty to enjoy

Regardless of what platforms you enjoy playing on, there's plenty to enjoy right now in the gaming industry. E3 2020 may not be happening but with the upcoming launch of the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5, there's a lot to look forward to.
