Hero Edition owners can expect the DLC in July 2020.
Minecraft Dungeons is an epic action RPG that is both fun and accessible, playable with up to four friends in online and local co-op. The game at present has around 14 levels if you include all of the secret ones, and can last dozens of hours if you go through all of the different difficulty tiers. Minecraft Dungeons is set to get even more levels in the near future for those who purchased the Hero Edition DLC, granting access to the game's first two upcoming expansions. Microsoft has now confirmed that the first of these is, as we expected, Jungle Awakens!
Our previous coverage of the "Jungle Awakens" rumored launch date appears to have been accurate, with Microsoft today confirming that indeed, the first DLC is dropping in July.
The Jungle Awakens DLC makes up three new dungeons, presumably across the Jungle map that was previously datamined. New weapons, armor, and artifacts will also come with this DLC, alongside a host of new enemy types that are completely new to the Minecraft universe.
In this adventure, you'll enter a distant, dangerous jungle to fight a mysterious power in three new missions. To defeat the terrors hidden among the vines, you'll have new weapons, armour, and artifacts at your disposal.
The new dungeons include Leapers, Whisperers, and Poison Quills, and probably boss mobs representing creatures never-before-seen in Minecraft. Judging from the first screenshot, these all follow a planty-motif, with living cacti and poisonous plants.
Microsoft also confirmed that the next DLC is Creeping Winter, and it's set to arrive "later this year," although the Nintendo Store pointed to September 2020 as the launch window previously.
Finally, Mojang confirmed that new features will arrive for free, beyond these paid DLC islands, with more information set to arrive in the "coming weeks." Microsoft is confirmed to be working on bringing cross-play to the game (which you can access early between Xbox and PC using this fun glitch).
Did you think that was it? Far from it! ! The team is also working on some cool new free content for Minecraft Dungeons that everyone will receive, regardless of edition! We'll come back with more details in the coming weeks.
Minecraft Dungeons might be a little light on real endgame content, but the potential is massive. Games like Diablo III and Path of Exile practically took on a life of their own with persistant developer love and updates, with Diablo's procedural Rifts system and Path of Exile's endless stream of large high-quality expansions. Hopefully, Minecraft Dungeons will get similar support in the coming months and years ahead.
