What you need to know

  • HP is refreshing its EliteBook 800-series for summer 2020.
  • A new 805 branch uses new AMD Ryzen PRO 4000 Mobile processors.
  • Intel-based EliteBook 800s are due in June, while the AMD models are expected in August.

The HP EliteBook 800 series is the mid-tier laptop range below the premium 1000 series and is meant for field workers, office productivity, and mass deployment. While resembling the more expensive 1000 range, the 800s tend to cut some costs while keeping the all-metal chassis and excellent hardware.

HP is updating the regular EliteBook 800 series (13.3", 14", and 15.6" diagonal screens) with the latest Intel six-core 10th Gen Intel vPRO chips, as anticipated. Those laptops feature 23 hours of battery life, up to 64GB of LPDDR4 RAM, Thunderbolt 3, and various connectivity options for 4G LTE.

There is also a new Intel model dubbed HP EliteBook x360 830 G7, which is the "first mainstream business convertible with 4x4 LTE antennas."

New 13-inch, 14-inch, and 15-inch HP EliteBook 800 G7 laptops for summer 2020.

.

But the more exciting announcement falls on the new 805-series, which are AMD variants. While the laptops are effectively the same as the Intel models (minus Thunderbolt 3 support), the new option for AMD Ryzen 4000 Series processor and Radeon graphics is enticing.

HP is now claiming that these 805-series are "the world's thinnest and lightest AMD-based mainstream business notebooks," which are a lot of caveats, but still noteworthy. Battery life looks to be a hair better than Intel with a boost of a mere 45-minutes extra.

The main differences between the Intel and AMD models comes down to Thunderbolt 3 and up to 64GB of RAM, which are both with the Intel SKUs. All models have options for HP's unique digital privacy screen feature dubbed Sure View, Wi-Fi 6, and Bluetooth 5.

HP didn't reveal pricing for the AMD 805-series, but more information will become available closer to launch. The Intel-based EliteBook 800 series is expected to beat AMD to the punch with a June release, while AMD should follow closer to August. The Intel-based 800 Series starts at $1,399.

Starting in June and August, HP is revamping its EliteBook 800 series with Intel and AMD models, respectively. Expect new 13.3-inch, 14-inch, and 15-inch laptop sizes with varying hardware configurations for enterprise usage.

Affordable accessories that'll pair perfectly with your PC

Every one of these awesome PC accessories will enhance your everyday experience — and none cost more than $30.

KLIM Aim RGB gaming mouse

$30 at Amazon

Whether you're a gamer or not, this is an absurdly good mouse for the price. It's ambidextrous, has a responsive sensor, a braided cable, tank-like build quality, and, yes, it has RGB lighting, though you can turn it off if that's not your thing.

AmazonBasics USB speakers

$16 at Amazon

These neat little speakers may only pack 2.4W of total power, but don't let that fool you. For something so small you get a well-rounded sound and a stylish design. And they only cost $16.

Razer mouse bungee

$20 at Amazon

Use a wired mouse? You need a mouse bungee to keep your cable tidy and free of snags. You get no drag on the cable, and this one has subtle styling, a rust-resistant spring and a weighted base, all for $20.
